STONES: A GUIDE
At Elise Marie DeSigns, we use semi-precious stones in our jewelry. Most of the jewelry on this website is made-to-order, allowing you to select exactly which stone you'd like!
This guide can help you identify which stones are your favorite and find the jewelry best suited for your preference.
Background
Many people believe there are healing qualities to some stones. Regardless of your belief for the need to "charge" your crystals, we believe in beautiful jewelry and pieces for all! Elise picked her favorite properties of all the gemstones she uses in her designs. If you aren't a regular stone shopper, there are a few pieces of information that will help orient you:
What does "semi-precious" mean and what is a crystal vs. mineral vs. gemstone?
Minerals are naturally made materials from the earth that have a specific structure and makeup.
A gemstone or gem is made FROM minerals. Specifically, minerals that are typically crystal shaped (i.e. quartz). Once these mineral crystals are sanded down and made into different shapes, they are called gemstones/gems.
All stones EXCEPT diamond, emerald, sapphire, or ruby are semi-precious stones.
Some stones that we offer are synthetic, dyed or coated. What does that mean?
When we select stones, we want to offer the highest quality and most striking and unique appearance. This is why some of the stones we use are synthetic, dyed, or coated.
- Synthetic materials have essentially the same optical, physical and chemical properties as their naturally occurring counterpart.
- Dyed gemstones may take on a new color or have a more intense or uniform version of their existing color.
- Coated stones may include processes of lacquering, enameling, inking, foiling or sputtering of films which can improve appearance, add color or provide other interesting special effects.
All stones are completely safe to wear and are guaranteed to turn heads! If you have questions about specific stones, do not hesitate to reach out to us!
